"In owning our own woundedness, we heal other people." - Fr. Richard Rohr
Sometimes, we just need someone to hear us. To really hear us, and guide us into listening and communicating with our bodies.
That is the beauty of private therapeutic yoga mentorship.
Over the years, I've worked with a many private clients from many different backgrounds, abilities, and circumstances, who seek out private therapeutic yoga for a variety of reasons. Some are looking to have more strength and flexibility in their bodies or are recovering from a physical set-back, some are needing assistance in managing chronic illness, while others are wanting to explore how the therapeutic practice of yoga can support them with their overall mental health and stress management.
However what brings me the most professional satisfaction is working with those how have experienced deep rooted and/or sudden emotional traumas that may have manifested into anxiety, depression, addiction, or many other varied health disorders. Over our time together, I guide them on using the practice of yoga to release stress and trauma from the body, and how to lovingly tap into the body's stored memory of the trauma(s) so that it can be integrated into the now, and over time, released. Mentees learn how to use what I call "yoga tools" to mitigate the effects of stress and trauma in their daily lives. I counsel my private clients on the ethical principles of yoga - principles that are inherently trauma informed - so that they can begin to see that yoga is not just something we do on a mat, but is a way of living that we embody.
By cultivating this way of being using the teachings of yoga, we can truly be at home in our bodies. We can learn what it means to be fully free to live the lives that we were born to live.
As an abuse survivor, and as someone who has healed herself from an incurable chronic illness, I know first hand what it means to save your own life from the traumas you have endured. Practicing yoga is a gift that continues to hand my own life back to me, piece by piece. It is my greatest privilege to share the wisdom that I have learned with others.
This is a sacred practice, and one that I do not take lightly. It is my highest honor to walk alongside my therapeutic yoga clients and accompany them on their journey.

Katherine is so much more than a yoga teacher and just what I need! Katherine is able to listen and read my body to set up a yoga experience that improves my body and my mind. She has designed in person and virtual classes for me that move me towards my goals. And if my day leads me to need something unexpected, Katherine quickly adapts. In addition to movement during class Katherine gives me guidance on how I can move and be mindful throughout the day. I feel like I am in very good hands." - Cadence K. It is with great pleasure and zero hesitation that my wife and I strongly endorse Katherine Hanson's yoga services. Participating in both private and small-group sessions, the experience was invigorating, tailored to the client's particular abilities and limitations, restorative, and stimulating to body and mind. Katherine's unique background in trauma therapy via the art of yoga provides benefits to those with and without personal traumatic experiences. The accommodations provided for physical limitations, e.g. a "bad back" or osteoarthritis, alleviated any lingering concern about our ability to participate in the practice of yoga meaningfully. This adaptability, paired with excellent written and verbal communication, elevates Ms. Hanson's offerings to the next level. Remote or in-person training, in private or as a small group, we have been incredibly pleased with the results of this investment in ourselves." - Jonathan F. |
